Beautification And Municipal Forest Commission

Established by the City code of ordinances Sec. 2-303. The municipal forest
shall be under the control and management of the commission on beautification
and municipal forests. The members of the commission shall be the trustees of
and for the municipal forests. The commission on beautification and municipal
forests shall provide for the removal or replacement of all trees, shrubs, and
other plantings upon city property and the development of a continuing plan and
program for new and renewal plantings, trimmings, transplanting of trees,
shrubbery, and other plantings within the city consistent with the best
practices of conservation and beautification. The commission shall have no
authority or control over the operation of any department of the city.

Community Policy And Management Team Board

Established by Council resolution on June 26, 1995 under guidelines
established in the state code section 2.2-5206. The community policy and
management team manage the cooperative effort in each community to better serve
the needs of troubled and at-risk youths and their families and to maximize the
use of state and community resources.

Fire Department Board Of Trustees

Established by the City code of ordinances Sec. 40-67. The City established a
Fire Fund for the purpose of accepting donations for the fire department. The
Board of Trustees is charged with the administration of these funds.

Industrial Development Authority

Established by the City code of ordinances Sec. 2-399 having all the powers and
duties as set forth in Code of Virginia, § 15.2-4900. The IDA manages property
and projects for the purpose of encouraging economic development and creating
jobs.

School Board

The Radford School Board is independently elected to manage the education of
Radford’s youth. The board hires and directs a professional Superintendent who
manages the day-to-day operation of the schools. The current school system
consists of four schools divided by grade levels. The City Council provides a
significant portion of the School budget based on the request submitted by the
School Board.

Social Services Board

Section § 63.2-324 of the Code of Virginia provides for a local department of
social services for each city under the supervision and management of a local
director. This director is appointed by the Social Services Board and serves at
their discretion.
