NEW BUSINESS

Consent Agenda:

(All agenda topics under the consent agenda are considered to be routine and can be acted upon by one motion)

Appropriation Ordinance:

    The Police Department has been awarded Byrne JAG to purchase supplies.

    • Consider Appropriation Ordinance 1616.02: $82,543 grant from the VA Criminal Justice Services for the Victims Witness Assistance Program:

      The funds from the grant will be used to operate the Victim Witness Assistance Program.

      • Consider Appropriation Ordinance 1616.03: $133,470 in Library State Aid grant:

        The Library will use the funds from the grant for office supplies, books, furniture, computer hardware and software and for Maintenance Service Contracts.

        • Consider Appropriation Ordinance 1616.04: $35,000 increase to 2009 State Homeland Security grant for Hazmat Team equipment:

          The Fire Department Hazmat team received an increase in their State Homeland Security grant and will use the funds to purchase equipment.

          • Consider Appropriation Ordinance 1616.05: $24,062, Emergency Management Performance Grant:

            This grant will allow the Police Dept. Mobile Command Center to have full 911 call taking, dispatching and interoperable radio system.

            • Consider Appropriation Ordinance 1616.06: $17,000 for release of funds expended for the July 4th celebration:

              The Radford Parks and Recreation Department receives donations directly for the July 4th celebration.

              • Consider Appropriation Ordinance 1616.07: $30,000 for NRV Regional Hazardous Material Response Team:

                The funding will be used for operations and maintenance costs for the response team.

                Contracts:

                • Pavement Maintenance Contract, FY 2010-2011:

                  There were two bidders on the procurement of the Street Maintenance Program; Adams Construction Company was the low bidder.

                  Other:

                  • Award Radford’s Water Treatment Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAX) Chemical Bid

                    This is the only chemical that is not a part of the Pepper’s Ferry Regional Waste Water Authority bid.  The lowest bidder for the PAX is Kemira at $35,000.

                    • Request Closure of the Norwood Lot for Upcoming Event:

                    Main Street Radford will be holding a community luncheon featuring locally grown food products, August 14, 2010 from 6:00am to 2:00 pm.

                    • Request Joint Public Hearing for Zoning Ordinance amendment:

                    Consider setting a joint public hearing regarding a request from the Planning Commission to amend Section 120.1-49, lot size requirements in the R-4 district.
