Message From The Mayor
Welcome to our web page and thank you for your interest in Radford. Whether you currently reside in Radford or are just visiting, as Mayor it is my pleasure to welcome you to our warm, inviting, and exciting community. As home of some of Virginia’s premier public schools and our own Radford University, Radford is a robust community in the heart of the New River Valley.

Our citizens are what make this city so special. There is a deep sense of pride in our community and especially in our high school athletic and academic programs. Radford High School has won three Wachovia Cups, an award given to the school with the most overall victories in a given year. Also, over the years Radford has amassed 33 State Championships in, football, soccer, basketball, tennis and scholastic competition. This is quite impressive for a school district with only 1,500 students. There is no greater thrill than to sit in Norm Lineberg stadium and cheer on the Bobcats.

Radford has a rich and varied history. From early settlers like Mary Draper Ingles to our Founding Fathers, John Blair Radford and General Gabriel C. Wharton, Radford has played a part in the growth of our nation. As a railroad town it helped fuel and transport the industrial revolution. Radford was home to two of Virginia’s Governors and many other state leaders.

Our City is located in a beautiful part of our great state. Sitting in a bend of the New River, Radford provides rich opportunities to recreate and enjoy the bounties of nature. Once again, welcome to Radford, the “New River” City.
