The Commissioner of the Revenue is an elected Constitutional Officer whose duties are mandated by state law and local ordinance. The Commissioner of the Revenue is the chief assessing official of the locality. Our office is staffed by the Commissioner, Cathy Flinchum, and two deputies. This elected position was created in the Virginia Constitution to establish and protect the independent status of the office and to ensure that local tax revenues will be assessed by an officer who reports directly to you. We are a professional team that provides superior customer service with integrity, accuracy, and consistency of tax assessments. We are committed to serve and assist you!

Income Tax filing deadlines: Federal - April 15 State (VA) - May 1
Virginia State Income Tax Assistance: Individuals who work or live in the City of Radford may contact our office for assistance with their Virginia state tax return. With our direct contact to the Department of Taxation, we can file accelerated returns electronically and provide refund status updates. Feel free to come in if you have questions or need assistance with completing your state tax return.
Personal Property: 2013 Personal Property Verification forms are due back to our office by May 1st only if changes need to be made. Please review and update if needed to ensure accurate assessments.
Business Personal Property: Returns are due in our office by May 1st. New Business Registration: Our office is now able to assist new businesses with online registration with the Department of Taxation.
Business Licenses: The Commissioner of the Revenue assesses business license taxes on businesses conducted in the City of Radford, including home-based businesses. Business licenses must be renewed by March 1st.
Tax Relief for the elderly: Elderly or disabled homeowners may be eligible for a real estate exception if they are 65 or older, or permanently disabled and meet the financial criteria established by local ordinance. Veterans with a 100% service connected disability may also be eligible for exemption.
Certification and recertification are due by May 1st
Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries services: The Commissioner of the Revenue office is a point of service for the Game & Inland Fisheries. Stop in to renew your hunting and fishing licenses, obtain your temporary boat registration certificate, and pick up information and regulation guides for hunting and fishing in Virginia. |
