Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician: The City of Radford is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the part-time position of GIS Technician. The successful candidate will perform highly responsible and technical duties in the maintenance and coordination of the City's entire GIS system.
As a minimum, two years of college course work or two years of on the job training with all aspects of GIS including a thorough knowledge of the operation, uses and capabilities of GIS data processing equipment and software and the ability to analyze data and adjust applications and programs is required. The successful candidate must be proficient with the ESRI suite of software, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, SQL, GPS equipment, software and data, and possess strong writing and communication skills.
The following is a partial list of functions the successful candidate will be required to perform;
- Plan the purchase and replacement of VGIN data.
- Implement and manage GIS projects for the departments of Public Works, Electric, E911, Engineering and the Commissioner of Revenue.
- Transfer and convert data from GPS and other collection devices.
- Maintain webGIS applications for public and private use.
- Maintain data quality to ensure E-911 system accuracy.
- Coordinate and oversee various special projects and /or presentations in support of GIS to City staff, City Council, outside government entities and vendors.

IT Technician: The City of Radford is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of IT Technician. The successful candidate will perform intermediate technical work in association with networking computer hardware and software and providing assistance to users of computer equipment.
The successful candidate should possess a thorough knowledge of the operation, uses and capabilities of data processing equipment; a thorough knowledge of systems, programming and networking; the ability to install and configure workstations and networking hardware and software; possess strong writing and communication skills.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in computer technology or related field and considerable experience in computer programming and networking is acceptable.
The following is a partial list of functions the successful candidate will be required to perform;
- Maintain network functionality and install, upgrade, configure, integrate and troubleshoot network software and devices including maintaining firewall and antivirus security.
- Monitor and maintain network performance, user accounts, email servers, and backup and restore processes.
- Install, upgrade, configure, integrate, troubleshoot, repair, assemble, and test various brands of computer hardware, operating system software and associated peripherals.
- Administer contracts for network/systems support.
- Implement and support IP based telephone system.
- Research and recommend solutions to technology needs, solicit quotes and process purchase requests.
