Communications

The Radford Department of Police Emergency Communications Center is an offsite location staffed by nine state certified Communications Officers and a Communications Director.

 

Our Emergency Communications Center (ECC) is furnished with two state of the art dispatching consoles equipped with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) which enables the C.O. to input accurate data for service to citizens and maintain current status of all emergency and non emergency personnel for public and officer safety.  The consoles are equipped with digital telephone equipment which supplies two E 911 land lines, two E911 wireless lines and three administrative lines.

 

Hard line 911 calls supply name, address and phone number of caller, while wireless 911 provides number of caller and pin points location of the caller on the ECC's mapping system.

 

The ECC handles all calls for service for Police, Fire and Rescue within the city.  Emergency calls for any public works service including electric; water and street issues are also handled from the ECC.
