RADFORD CITY LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM
The City of Radford will begin its annual drive to collect fallen leaves within the City beginning October 29, 2012.
Two three-person crews and two leaf vacuum units will be used to cover the entire City in three phases. In Phase One, crews will be working in each area only during the dates indicated on the schedule. Residents are asked to help crews keep to the schedule by having their leaves raked before the week scheduled in their area. There is not enough manpower or equipment to backup and effectively cover each area more than once. Normally, more than 500 tons of leaves are collected each fall. During Phase Three, which will take place during the last week of the program, collection will return in heavily wooded areas only where leaves have continued to fall.
The City has been divided into areas for collection based on the number of trees, type and anticipated volume of leaves, and collection area. The area for collection conducted on a weekly basis in each area is described below and shown on the accompanying map.

AREA F: Dec. 10 – Dec 14

PHASE THREE Dec. 17 – Dec. 21
Repeat collection in heavily wooded areas only where leaves have continued to fall since collection.
Residents are urged to pile loose leaves at their property line. Covering piles with old sheets or blankets weighted with stones or bricks is an effective way to prevent piled leaves from blowing. Residents are asked to refrain from blocking drainage ditches, pipes, or gutters with leaves. Piles of that end up in the street or gutter can be dangerous to vehicles, block drainage, and are unsightly for visitors to our City.
Bagged leaves make collection more efficient. Residents who bag their leaves can have them collected within five days, regardless of collection schedule, by notifying the Public Works Department at 731-3605, between the hours of 7:30 AM thru 4:00 PM, Monday thru Friday to schedule a pick-up. As a reminder, leaves must be bagged when collected at all other times of the year there will be a yard waste charge for these collections.
Be sure your leaves are free of rocks and sticks which can damage the vacuum equipment. No leaves can be picked up from alleys or on private property. Leaf piles that are improperly placed or contaminated with rocks will not be collected. It is the responsibility of the owner to properly dispose of improperly raked leaves. Also, remember open burning of leaves is prohibited during the year. The Public Works Department operates its leaf collection equipment for the collection of loose leaves.
All uncontaminated leaves are recycled. Individual residents can receive a delivery of leaves free of charge on a first-call, first-serve basis for use as a soil additive or composting as long as the location is accessible by our leaf collection trucks by contacting the Public Works Department at 731-3605, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, weekdays.
